Marita has been a Youth Development Mentor at Beacon House since September 2022.  Marita believes that the statement “it takes a village” is the most profound statement in relation to programming for our youths’ success.  She accepts the responsibility of mother, friend, teacher, and/or confidant to our children with honor.  Marita has a long-standing career in education and public service.  She taught high school for twelve years and worked with the DC Council for Ward 5 for five years.  Her greatest joy has been being a mother to her daughter who she envisioned in her life for more than 17 years before her arrival. Marita’s favorite quote is “The revolution will not be televised.”
