safe recreation and nutrition program

Each day, Beacon House welcomes students into our recreation area as a safe and nurturing space for them to socialize after school. Students can spend time with their friends, play games, work on their homework, and receive meals while they are in the space. The recreation area often serves as the first point of contact for families interested in our programs and helps to promote a sense of community.

Since 34% of families in Edgewood Commons reported not having enough food at home, we offer every child a healthy meal during program hours so that hunger is not a deterrent to learning in partnership with the DC Office of the State Superintendent of Education.
