One such example is Michael Newby who, at age 7, began participating in our summer camp program. He attended camp every summer until age 14 and also attended Saturday morning programs. In eighth grade, Michael joined College Bound’s Academic Mentoring Program at Beacon House. After graduating from Duke Ellington [High] School of the Arts in 2007, Michael earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications from Drexel University in Philadelphia. He now works in the information technology field. He began volunteering as a College Bound “partner” (mentor) at Beacon House in the fall of 2014. Michael is just one example of how Beacon House touches lives and has become an integral component of the social fabric of Edgewood.
